DIVINE GUIDANCE IN THE CRUCIAL CHOICE OF A MARRIAGE PARTNER:
Adam and Eve were very unique in both their creation and marriage in the sense that they had no human parents or antecedents. So, point-blankly, God does not choose a spouse for anyone now like He did for Adam in the Garden of Eden but God helps by guiding our choice of marriage partner if we allow Him and if we are sensitive to His voice and follow His word. That is why the Bible says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18: 22 NKJV). What that means is that we choose while God guides.
The search and choice of Rebekah as a wife for Isaac by Eliezer, Abraham’s chief servant in Genesis 24 is a classical example of how God can guide our choice of a marriage partner if we allow Him do it.
The challenge then is for us not to be rigid or just be merely religious but to be malleable, truly and deeply spiritual and sensitive enough to hear God when He speaks. Truth is – God still speaks to those who care to listen!
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32: 8
“The steps of a [good] man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” – Psalm 37: 23
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – Jeremiah 33: 3
